CESA represents the maritime manufacturing industry in 17 nations across Europe.

The voice of the maritime civil manufacturing industry in Europe

CESA represents the European maritime manufacturing industry, which encompasses the production, maintenance, repair, retrofit and conversion of all types of commercial ships and naval ships and floating structures, but also the full supply chain of producers of maritime systems, technologies, equipment, and services.

CESA has a long tradition as representative organisation at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in London. Starting in 1937 as « International Shipbuilding Conference », it was re-established after the war as « West European Shipbuilders Informal Contacts » and renamed in 1965 to « Association of West European Shipbuilders », AWES. In the eighties, AWES established an EC-linking committee, which later on became a separate sister organisation under the name of CESA. In 2004, however, AWES and CESA decided to go back to the initial one-organisation structure, i.e. CESA.

CESA promotes the mutual interests of its members at the International Maritime Organisation

CESA is the main stakeholder for the European maritime manufacturing industry in the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in London. CESA takes actively part in the IMO’s Plenary sessions, Committees and sub-committees, including the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and Maritime Safety Committee (MSC).
